Eyebrow trends to try (and those to avoid!)

Written by: Clare Weyers Date of published: . Posted in Trends

Thinking about a new style for your eyebrows but not sure where to start? Let us talk you through everything you need to know!

new eyebrows trends

The shape and colour of your eyebrows can make such a huge difference to your face, and overall appearance. Eyebrow treatments are more popular as ever, which is why we offer eyebrow treatment training in Essex, including eyebrow threading, waxing and tinting. However, styling those brows has become much more popular, with new trends frequently taking off, and different styles coming in and out of fashion. Here is my advice on those trends you should try, and those you should avoid!

Is eyebrow styling a new thing?

There are a tonne of eyebrow treatments available at the salon and these treatments are in high demand, which is why here in Essex we offer eyebrow threading training, plus much more, including our new Bibi Brows course.

When it comes to eyebrow trends, celebrities lead the masses with different eyebrow styles and have often been the centre point for what we view as the best ‘brows. Starting back in the 1920s, a very thin, curved downwards look was popular. Over the years, arched brows, pencil thin and hairs pointing up have all had their moments of popularity.

Try these eyebrow trends:

No matter what the trends and styles have been in the past, there is no doubt that in recent years, big, bold eyebrows are trending. Vogue says that eyebrows define the face, and with big, bold eyebrows, it’s easy to see why. Ever since Cara Delevingne entered into the spotlight, it’s been hard to escape big eyebrows! If you can pull off the look, then bold eyebrows are fantastic. They can define your face and really make you stand out from the crowd.

What other trends are good to try for eyebrows? From rainbows (or should that be rainbrows?) to eyebrow slits, New York Fashion Week brought about different ideas and eyebrow trends. But, what about finding a trend which suits you? Rather than going for the big and bold look, many celebrities opt for eyebrows which are better suited to them; Taylor Swift knows that thin and light lines are much better suited to her face and complexion.

In fact, developments in eyebrow training mean that you can now have your eyebrows designed specifically for your face. Here in Essex, we know that each individual face is different so deciding what brows to have should vary for each individual.

With this in mind, you can now undergo a face shape diagnosis, in which beauticians can analyse your face and see which look is best for you. Then, using techniques such as waxing, threading and makeup, we will design an eyebrow shape and look specifically for you. Sounds great doesn’t it? The trend of specifically designed eyebrows is really taking off. Here in Essex, we have Bibi Brows, specially designed eyebrow treatment training that will teach you how to give your clients the best eyebrows for their face shape.

Avoid this eyebrow trend:

During Christmas and New Year, one eyebrow trend which really took off was glitter eyebrows. They were extremely popular, with styles ranging from the very subtle to the very bold.   While this idea certainly is creative, festive, and fun, some women who tried this style found that it could actually be quite damaging. Although some of the women who tried glitter eyebrows really liked the look, removing the glitter was much more difficult. The appeal of glitter eyebrows is obvious: it’s bright, sassy, new and certainly eye-catching. However, losing eyebrow hair in the process of removing excess glitter doesn’t seem to be worth the risk. If you want your eyebrow hair removed, I recommend sticking to the normal routine of eyebrow threading, waxing or plucking! For me, this is one to avoid unless you know the product is safe and easy to remove.

Clare Weyers offers two courses on eyebrow beauty at Elite School of Beauty Therapy. As well as the new Bibi Brows course, there is also eyebrow treatment training available.

Enhance Your Skills With A Short Beauty Course In Essex

Written by: Clare Weyers Date of published: . Posted in Trends

beauty training course essexAcquiring new skills is crucial for career development and making yourself eligible for a new job or promotion. Often, a certain skill or qualification can be the difference between your dream job and an average job. Finding time to do a course to gain new skills can be a struggle if you’re already working full time. Doing a course at college is a great investment, but can take a long time which isn’t always practical.

If you want your new skills to be developed quickly in order to develop your business or apply for that dream job, then a short course is perfect! A short course also has the benefit of fitting into your schedule and won’t require you to take a long period of time off work. In the beauty industry, a short course is ideal for gaining the skills you need quickly to enhance your career and give you a competitive edge.

How are short beauty courses different to other courses?

Group sizes for short beauty courses are very small. This allows you to have more attention from the teacher in order to get the skills exactly right in a shorter space of time. At Elite School of Beauty Therapy in Essex, we have a maximum of four students per class so that each student gets plenty of attention and has the chance to ask questions as we go along.

A short course is very intensive so be prepared to work hard. The length of the course will depend on your previous experience in order for you to get all the knowledge you need to gain the skills in a short amount of time.

Gaining a qualification on a short beauty course is no different to a college course. You can still gain an NVQ on some courses as well as receiving the Elite Diploma. This allows you to get insurance to practise the skills you have learnt in Beauty Therapy.

What are the benefits of a short beauty course?

Beauty therapy is a booming industry and there are numerous reasons why investing in a short course is a great idea.

Time is one of the main benefits of doing a short beauty course. It can fit into your busy schedule and give you those skills you require as soon as possible, meaning you can apply for that job you really want, or can develop your business and expand.

Short courses also mean smaller classes, which is a huge benefit. Beauty therapy involves being practical and active, a short intensive course allows you to do both of these things, whilst still asking questions as you go along.

So what are you waiting for? Kick start your skills with a short beauty course in Essex!

Elite School of Beauty Therapy run multiple short courses to suit your availability and give you the skills you require for your career. For more information about the courses we offer, take a look here and contact us to find out how we can enhance your skills and qualifications.

Beautiful Hairstyles for the Bride to Be

Written by: Clare Weyers Date of published: . Posted in Hairdressing, Trends

bridal hairstyles - makeup courses in EssexWe all dream of our big day, and whilst the seating arrangements and the menu are very crucial, for us girls, nothing is more important than making ourselves look and feel utterly beautiful. Choosing the right dress can be a challenging and time consuming event for some of us, and I’ve found that hair and makeup can sometimes be pushed aside right till the last minute.

Below I have curated a small list of a few of my favourite hairstyles, for various lengths, that I think look gorgeous for the bride to be to get you started on your search. The list is far from exhaustive but hopefully it will inspire you and get you thinking, there’s nothing worse than having a few champagnes the morning of, panicking over up do’s or down do’s!

Short Hair:

The Sleek Angled Bob  is perfect if you want to go down the route of pure simplicity and elegance. This is easy to do if your hair is longer as you can cut it to style. However if your hair is a lot shorter it is paramount that you establish this as the style you want way in advance to give your hair time to grow.

The simplicity of this style allows you to really go to town on your hair accessories and jewelry. The bridal bird cage hair net coincides so well with this look; it adds class and detail in a subtle manner.

Take a look at Bride.com for a more hairstyle examples for short hair.

Mid-Length Hair:

The Low Voluminous Up-do is one of my all-time favourites, followed closely by the Curly Bun and Side French Braid. Both are very similar, yet the low voluminous bun has a more straight sleek look, with the bouffant adding a very sixties dramatic look. This style once again is very simple yet elegant.

The curly bun and side French braid typically represents a girly girl who loves detail and intricacy. The curls give a very soft feminine look, especially when delicately framing the face. A tiara sits perfectly with this style, or flowers, depending on your preference.

Take a look at a wider range of bridal styles suitable for medium length hair.

Long Hair:

The Large Elegant Bun is striking and bold and signifies confidence and drama. You’ll need long hair to truly depict this look as the larger the bun the better. You can either choose to accessories this with some bold statement earrings or soften the look by adding a flower or any accessories that uniquely represents you.

The Side Wavy Down-do is the epitome of prettiness and femininity. Sweeping the long mass of curls over one shoulder exposes one side of you neck, which looks elegant and classy, definitely one to go for if you love your curls!

Need more inspiration? Take a look at more bridal hairstyles that are perfect for long locks!

Additionally, if you need inspiration for your brides maids take a look at Bridal Guide for an exhaustive list of beautiful hairstyles for any hair length. You’re bound to find the perfect style for you.

How To Keep Your Skin In Tip-Top Shape This Winter

Written by: Clare Weyers Date of published: . Posted in Trends

Our Guide To Keeping Your Skin Glowing Despite The Weather

Winter can really take its toll on your skin. It is not just the weather outside, central heating can also have a negative effect. The differences in temperature and humidity can dry skin out and leave it looking undesirably red. Here are my best tips for protecting your skin.

beautiful skincare tips - essex beauty schoolMoisturise Your Skin

Instead of using a light lotion like you would in the spring and summer, switch to a heavy, thick moisturiser for winter. If you feel it’s too thick on your skin then pat with a face cloth after you have applied. Another top tip is to add a little face oil to your moisturiser as they have essential oils in. A good face oil can be expensive but you only have to use a few drops and it can make a huge difference to your skin. Don’t forget your hands, slather on a good hand cream and make sure it has an SPF. Just because it is winter doesn’t mean the sun isn’t out. Lips also dry out terribly in winter. So make sure you are carrying a good lip balm.

Forget The Perfume

We all love to indulge in those sweet fragrances, but skip perfume as the alcohol content of perfume can strip moisture further and also irritate skin. You can use essential oils instead as these are alcohol-free and natural. Stick perfume is another great alternative as they do not have any alcohol in.

Shorten The Showers

Hot showers also dry out skin. They may be bliss and an excellent way to warm up but hot showers don’t make for happy skin. Keep them short and don’t bathe more than once a day. Lowering the temperature may not be fun but your skin will thank you. Be careful about the shower products you use on your skin too. Harsh products full of chemicals will just dry it out more and increase sensitivity. Switch to a natural product for the best results.

Make up trends for Spring/Summer 2013

Written by: Clare Weyers Date of published: . Posted in Make up, Trends

Having been in the Beauty industry for nearly 20 years and now teaching every aspect at my Training School Elite School of Beauty Therapy, I wanted to share with you the Hair and Makeup trends for this Spring and summer.

I constantly get asked what colour trends are about throughout the year and it’s my job to keep up to date and current for me to pass onto my students and for them to pass onto their clients. So here goes…….

Firstly we’re going to look at the eyes for the up and coming season. For my first on-trend look it’s all about bright eyes with colours including Duck egg blues, greens, rose petal pink, warm peach and sparkly Lilac giving an amazing eye-catching and smooth glittery look. These looks can be applied all over the eyes or just as a line in the crease of your eyelids. Try keeping your lips nude and your cheeks with just a hint of warmth (A look favoured by Stella McCartney for her models).

Our next looks for the eyes is the classic smoky look, but instead of it all being about grey, apply in the same way but with gold’s, bronzes and silvers. Grey still has its place but by using these alternative colours, it brings a whole fresher feel to this look. Try pulling the eye shadow out in a wing-like shape over the whole eye and maybe add some Diamante’s for a real show stopping look. Despite some people thinking this is just an evening look, try it out in the day and I’ll think you’ll be surprised as to how wearable and flexible this look can be.

Nude make up never seems to go out of fashion and this year is no different! If the bright or smoky eyes aren’t for you then just apply a hint of foundation giving a natural and fresh look with a subtle warm hue of blusher lightly brushed over the cheeks with natural glowing lips to give an amazing illuminating effect that everyone can wear.

Lastly I’m going to talk about lips! This season it’s all about the bright cerise pink, post box red, rose hues applied in crayon form or if you still like a sheer gloss, which works equally as well. Or try teaming delicate grey eye shadow with Aubergine lips for a more glamorous look and one used by Dolce and Gabbana.

Ultimately if you want to go for bright lips then team them with a slightly nuder eye and if you want to go bright eyed then ideally go nude on the lips!
